How to choose designer lighting
Start with the role of the light
A well-lit room usually combines general, task and accent light. A pendant or ceiling lamp gives the base light, a table or floor lamp creates atmosphere and reading light, and a wall lamp highlights a wall or a passage.
Size and height
A pendant above a table usually hangs 70 to 80 cm above the tabletop, and high enough above open floor to walk under. Floor and table lamps should suit the furniture next to them. If you are unsure, send us a photo of the room.
Light source and colour
For living rooms and bedrooms a warm light of about 2700 to 3000 K is usually chosen, and a more neutral one for a desk or kitchen. If the lamp should dim, check that it is dimmable and which dimmer suits it.
